If you are searching online for pathways to immigrate to Canada as a caregiver, you have likely seen headlines promising direct permanent residency on arrival. Unfortunately, much of the information circulating across social media is dangerously outdated, leaving thousands of applicants vulnerable to misleading advice and outright scams.

The reality of the current immigration landscape is clear: all dedicated federal caregiver pilot programs are currently closed to new application intake.

Both the older Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots, as well as the successor Home Care Worker pilots, have paused new intakes while authorities process existing backlogs. If an agent or agency claims they can submit a brand-new application under these specific caregiver pilots today, they are selling you a pathway that does not exist.

How Caregivers Can Actually Move Forward Today

While the dedicated pilot doors are closed for intake, skilled care workers are not entirely out of options. If you have legitimate caregiving, nursing, or social support experience, your strategy must pivot to programs that are actively issuing invitations:

  1. Express Entry Healthcare Category Draws: The federal government continues to run category-based rounds targeting healthcare and social services occupations. If your work falls under eligible National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes, an optimized Express Entry profile can bypass general point cutoffs.
  2. Targeted Provincial Nominee Streams: Several provinces operate specialized healthcare streams within their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) to recruit home support and healthcare aides for local facilities and communities.
  3. Strategic Document Preparation: The federal government has committed to transitioning caregiver pathways into a permanent, institutionalized immigration program. When the next intake phase or permanent program launches, quotas will fill within hours. Getting your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), language tests, and employment contracts verified now ensures you are ready to file the moment the portal opens.

Immigration policy changes rapidly, but the key to protecting your time and money is verifying that the program you are applying for is actively open. Focus on legitimate, active pathways and ensure your profile is legally sound before you invest your resources.
