Because hunger is in every community, so are our trucks. If you’ve seen us pass by in your neighbourhood, you might have noticed those words written on the side of our vehicle.
Feed Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization, with the mission to feed those in need and reduce that need. To make this possible, we distribute almost two million kilograms of donated food to our network of 147 food banks and meal programs (86 in Halifax).
Our role extends beyond food. We support our members to build the capacity to serve their communities. This summer, we provided vertical gardens to five of our agencies as part of a pilot project, to enable food banks to grow fresh vegetables indoors and engage people with gardening.
We also help raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day.
We’re here if you need food support. Dial 211, and someone will connect you to a food bank closest to you, and help provide information on what you can expect when you visit the first time. Our member agencies are like community hubs and often provide so much more than food. They can help connect you with important resources.
We’re also here to provide opportunities if you want to help provide support for others. Volunteer with us to meet new people, and be part of the community. We offer lots of ways to contribute your time: fundraising at events, doing data entry, sorting food in the warehouse, or assisting our drivers out on the trucks, just to name a few.

In this space, we invite local non-profit organizations to share what they do, and how our readers can help. If you know an organization that would like to share its story, contact us.
