On behalf of the entire team at My Halifax Experience, it is my pleasure to welcome you to 2019 and to send our sincere thanks for being a part of our journey thus far. We have a lot to look back on with pride and we are excited about the future.

I’ll like to start by once again sending congratulations to last year’s Top 25 Immigrants in the Maritimes. It is an honor to give recognition to your achievements and contributions to your communities and we cannot wait to see what you accomplish in the years to come.

2019 is already shaping up to be an amazing year, we have so much lined up— As part of our mandate to supporting and improving the experience of international students studying in our region, we are working with various educational institutions in our region to identify international students who are in financial difficulty to assist them through our international student bursary program. We are excited to announce that we will be giving out $2000 in bursary awards to identified international students who are studying at various educational institutions in our region. We recognize their endless hard work and dedication and are very proud to be commemorating them through this funding.

Last year, we held our premiere Mosaic Festival with great success. The Mosaic Festival celebrates and strengthens the beautiful diversity found in our city through a vibrant party featuring a parade, vendors from around the world and performances representing talent from a wide array of cultures. This year, we are thrilled to be expanding the Mosaic Festival to include our first film festival. We are creating this ground-breaking film festival to act as a forum for our diverse community to share their experiences and bring together cultures from around the world through the art of film. I am grateful to Develop Nova Scotia for all their support for the Mosaic Festival, I can’t thank Jennifer Angel the CEO and her entire staff enough.

Our cover story for this edition highlights Elsy Makhlouf. At the age of 18, Elsy moved from Lebanon to Halifax to attend Mount Saint Vincent University. Elsy is a truly remarkable person, to say the least. She has had countless work and co-op opportunities, can speak three languages (and is learning another two) and is CEO of her own public relations firm. The list of her achievements is long. We are delighted to be telling the story of Elsy’s versatility in this edition of our magazine and hope that by reading our cover story you will be inspired and challenged to find and cultivate your versatility.

We could not be more excited about what the future holds for us at My Halifax Experience. With our new and expanding platforms, 2019 is shaping up to be a great year and we are both thrilled and grateful to have you along for the ride.
