Happy New Year

I would like to welcome all of our readers to 2020. I trust you had a wonderful Holiday full of peace, joy and time with those dearest to you, and wish you a prosperous and healthy new year.

2019 marked a milestone year for My Halifax Experience, defined by continued success and further growth. Our brand has expanded to further our celebration of diversity, culture and inclusion in our region even more, and we have expanded our mandate to inspire others to welcome immigrants with open arms. One of our pinnacle moments of this success and growth was the 2019 Mosaic Festival of Arts and Culture. Growing off of our premiere festival in 2018. The 2018 Mosaic Festival of Arts and Culture celebrated diversity through a vibrant downtown parade and performers from around the world, and this year expanded to include a film festival. The Mosaic Film Festival is a forum for filmmakers from Atlantic Canada and beyond to share their experiences, their journeys and their cultural identities through the beautiful art of film making. Our inaugural festival was met with great praise, with filmmakers Joe Chang, Marie Wright, and Leona Krahn winning Best Short, Best Documentary and Best Feature Film respectively.

This edition we will be celebrating the most inspiring immigrants in the Martimes. The trailblazers and leaders who are making a positive impact in our communities; the unsung heroes who often go without the recognition they deserve. These remarkable individuals each have inspiring stories and amazing accomplishments to share with us, and I hope you will join me in congratulating them for their feats and thanking them for their hard work and dedication within their communities.

I would also like to extend my thanks to you, the readers. Without your continued support for what we do we will not be here. You are the reason we do what we do, and your support makes you a part of a great initiative – proving that what they say is true; diversity is our strength. On behalf of our entire team, we say thank you!

Our future is undoubtedly bright, and we look forward to continuing to grow and sharing inspiring stories in 2020. We will continue telling the stories of immigrants who have moved to the region and called it home and to encourage East Coasters to welcome immigrants with open minds and open arms. We thank our partners, for being with us every step of the way – and look forward to having you continue with us on this journey.
