Creating a new celebration of culture and diversity in Halifax
On Saturday, August 18th, Halifax will come together to celebrate the vibrant cultures that make our city unique. The one-day family-friendly Mosaic Festival will showcase heritage, customs, food, and talents from around the world. Representatives from as many cultures as possible are invited to share their unique traditions and heritage.
Mosaic will start with a parade at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 and travel along Lower Water Street to the Halifax waterfront at Salter Street where the music and celebration will continue with a series of concerts featuring musicians from various backgrounds. Vendor booths will feature food, art, crafts, and products.
The Mosaic Festival was created by Ifeanyi Emesih and is coordinated by My Halifax Experience, a brand that through its publications, website, and social media inspires newcomers to stay, take advantage of the region’s amazing opportunities, and flourish in their east coast home. Through this established brand and sister brand My East Coast Experience, the highly successful Top 25 Immigrants in the Maritimes Awards and Gala was established in 2017. Mosaic is yet another way to leverage a vast and powerful network of immigrant partners to secure participants and sponsors to showcase the best of what Halifax has to offer.
“We want to keep creating events like this to celebrate diverse cultures. We want people to feel welcome here, and we want everyone in Halifax and beyond to come out and appreciate the incredible diversity of this city,” says Ifeanyi Emesih, founder of My East Coast Experience.
“The Mosaic Festival is just one way to bring everyone together, and by doing this we hope to help retain newcomers and attract more international students to our city. Ultimately, our goal is to contribute to attracting and keeping immigrants here, and helping to grow our local economy.”
Emesih’s dream is to see this festival become one of Halifax’s essential summer events, and for immigrants, newcomers, and international students to share a little piece of home on the Halifax waterfront. He also wants Halifax residents to have the chance to discover, learn about, and immerse themselves in other cultures.
The My Halifax Experience team is excited to be actively supporting the municipality’s goal of building community, fostering good community relations, supporting culture, developing the local economy and tourism industry, and enriching the quality of life of all residents and visitors.
